Getting the Holiday Started
A few years ago I created a winter village for my mantel. I haven’t had the opportunity to decorate for Christmas, or any other holiday, for a few years. But this year I do! I am doing a photoshoot tomorrow and I want my fall decorations up for the shoot, but then it is full on Christmas decorating and cooking. I typically make my cards each year as well, but I have a surplus of cards and will use those (use what you have!). If you want a card please send me an email and I will get one in the mail to you soon.
Things have really snuck up on me this year. I can’t believe it’s December! This year has really been a hard one, but I am happy to be ending it on a good note. Things are not where I want them to be, but I am happy to say that I am looking towards the future and all it holds. And I still have a list of things I’d like to get done in the next few weeks. I have gardens to plan for next year y’all! And things to make. Right now I have a list that looks like this:
1. goat cheese ice cream
2. strawberry jam (from last year’s strawberries)
3. blueberry jam
4. finish putting the flower beds to bed (mulch and pull out dead flowers)
Anyway. Let’s talk about decorating for a minute. If you remember that village above, I made it a few years ago from wooden houses. The structures were already built (from Michaels) but I painted them and coordinated them for the mantle. This year they will make a new appearance along with my other Christmas decorations. I won’t have a real tree this year, bummer! I went for a walk in the woods with the dogs and just didn’t see anything that I could use. So I will have an artificial tree and be happy with it! I will start to collect some greenery and pine cones though. Those make great decorations for winter.
OH! I don’t think I told you about these acorn ornaments that I found for $3 at a church sale. I can’t wait to see how things unfold with them this year. I think that’s the newest find that I am adding to my decorating repertoire this year. Have you started decorating yet? What’s your favorite holiday to decorate for? Believe it or not, mine is actually the red, white, and blue holidays. But I love decorating no matter what the occasion so it’s a win-win.
I’ll be back soon with some more details on decorating and some other things. I have a long list of things to share with you. Life got in the way last week but I will start carving out some time to share more in this space. I’m feeling good about all the things.
‘til next time
