Kid’s Table
I had the pleasure of designing a Thanksgiving Table Scape for a sweet family this past weekend and was given the direction of ‘nothing too fancy’. When I suggested the decor idea of “woodland’ thanksgiving, my client was happy. I will be back soon with all the details on the actual table scape and the story behind it, but for today I wanted to show you how to put together a fun, and cost effective, center piece for the kids table!
I started the project by digging around on Michaels.com to see what they had for floral décor. I stumbled upon these sweet felt ornaments on stems. I also found some other items for the table scape design online so I thought a trip was in order! I ended up purchasing some and using some of what I have (you know how I LOVE to use what I have. And if you don’t know that about me, stick around and we’ll start using what we have to make and do.)
Fox Picks
Hedgehog Picks
Pumpkin Picks
Mushroom Picks
I used what I had for everything else: terra cotta pots, moss, florals (sunflower and mum), cattails, berries, etc. You can easily find all of these things between Michaels and the Dollar Store though.
I didn’t have any idea of what the centerpieces would look like before I went on my mission of finding things for the centerpiece. I picked up what I knew I didn’t have and then went home and started digging through my flower bins. I found the two terra cotta pots in my gardening tub and gave them a good scrub. I wanted them to look used since it’s all about the forest and woodland creatures. Next I took styrofoam and hot glued the pieces together, but not to the pot. I inserted the styrofoam into the pot and then hot glued the moss on top. I worked in layers so it would all stick together and not come loose.
Then I started arranging the flowers and animals until I liked how it looked. I used scissors to snip the flowers and pumpkins apart so I could arrange them more easily. And finally I hot glued an acorn to the front. Then I repeated on the next pot so they looked as similar as possible.
In total, I spent about $15 for both of the centerpieces. However, if I had to purchase everything it would have been more around $45 for two. That’s pretty reasonable too. However, keep in mind that most of these items are on sale. Now is the time to purchase and then have everything ready for next year (although you do have time to grab some goodies and put a couple of them together for this year’s kids table too!)
6” terra cotta pots
styrofoam blocks (cut in half); I then glued a round Styrofoam disc on top
sunflower stem (cut flowers off and use individually)
cattails or bunny tails
Mum cut off of large floral stem
Berry stem
acorns
Happy making y’all! Let me know what you think. Do you decorate the kid’s table too?
‘til next time
